
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26 1926 - October 18 1999) was an American actress and singer whose career spanned more than 40 years. A torch singer noted for her smooth, sultry contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 until 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River", which she recorded, was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her character in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's career as an actor lasted 35 years. in the film industry in 1944 which included roles for female leads in many westerns. She also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) as well as together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This was the beginning of her professional musical career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. However, she continued to be an actor on the Emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979), where she was co-starring alongside Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband was the producer of the show.
