Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency is a web site which hosts video and commentary on the representation of female characters in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit educational site that explores female representations in popular culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes about women and how they are portrayed in popular culture. Additionally she has a mission to increase awareness of online harassment directed at women, and other the marginalized communities of people. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in the field of Social and Political thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a well-known public speakers. She has delivered speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. As a university student she became concerned about issues related to gender equality and the rights of women in the early stages. An ambitious woman who wanted to create a web series that examined the gender representation of video games was targeted in an online campaign. The incident did not deter her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered the determination of feminist media critic. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feminism, she is recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This educational non-profit explores the role of women in pop culture narratives.
